HAITI WANTS US TO RUN HAITI

You know those days when everything feels so fucked up, all you want to do is throw your hands up and hand the reigns to someone else? Imagine everyday being like that until, one afternoon, your whole life’s rumbled by the hand of God and, as shitty as everything was, it’s now one hundred times shittier. That’s how it’s like for Haiti, apparently, as they’ve asked America to just take over and run their country.

Someone should tell those Haitians that it generally doesn’t end well when the US steps in to run a foreign country. But maybe it’ll work better since the Haitians actually want us in their country.

The request for more American intervention comes after US troops in Haiti delivered hundreds of tons of rice to the homeless of Port-Au-Prince. Officials in the Obama administration, meanwhile, are struggling to lower expectations. It’s nice to help insofar as it makes us look good, but anything beyond that gets expensive, and fast.

Cronicko: SodaBob: Your condescending attitude towards the self-determination of the world's first black republic is the kind of thing that disgusts me in America today. It's not that Haiti ever needed USA, by the contrary, "you" (as in "us" right?) are greedy for their deep-water petrol (sure you dind't see that in coporate media), their cheap semi-slave labour, and why not, bargain kids. Baptist missionaries are exporting haitian kids to USA. The US gereral responsible for occupation is also a religiuous fundamentalist that believes Haiti needs to become christian before it evolves to "democracy" - or whatever lie that means to the illuded US citzens. Yea sure put them praying to white-skinned idols waiting for some pale messiah to bring thema phony democracy like in some avatar-style bullshit. In the meanwile Obama's killer drones are bombing people in the villages of Pakistan...

SodaBob: There were certainly problems when we (yes, we or "us" - if you vote, you're represented in government, and therefore must take responsibility for your country's actions) occupied and ran Haiti back in the early 1900's or whatever. That being said, though, we helped them build infrastructure and train them in vocational trades. Certainly a two edged sword, being occupied by a foreign power, but for the time being it wouldn't be a bad move for them to have us administer their country, so long as it is for a limited time.

NEOES: Um...I'm pretty sure if this is true, even the kindest Americans would not want to do this. To most voters, we have so many problems already, annexing and governing a troubled state like Haiti really isn't gonna fly too well... And I don't think the Haitians REALLY know what will happen if they let us in. For all the love Obama's giving, I'm pretty sure even under him, 10.3 million desperately poor people will be ripe for exploitation as a US state.

Cronicko: So VBS staff reads Washington Posts proselitism of Haiti's occupation and figures Haitians actually want that? The WP article is a fallacy based on some biased interviews. If WP or VBS staff only mentioned that USA has actually occupied and run Haiti from 1915 to 1934... I mean you guys can make cool gonzo journalism and don't give a fuck to whats going on but control your imperialist-conservative impulses, It gives America a bad name: "But maybe it’ll work better since the Haitians actually want us in their country." - notice the "us" word? I am sorry but seems like the writer confuses himself with his country's army. It's not US or them fool! http://www.democracynow.org/2010/1/19/us_accused_of_militarizing_relief_effort
