IRANIAN PROTESTERS SENTENCED

Remember a few months ago when all those Iranians took to the streets demanding real democracy and the world stood united with them? John McCain even said he’d arrange for WiFi equipped drones to fly across the country, keeping the protestors connected to Twitter and Facebook, or whatever Muslim equivalent they needed to organize. Whatever happened to those guys? Turns out, the Iranian government is executing and imprisoning a whole mess of ‘em, according to the world’s last remaining major media outlet with an attention span. Or rather, an attention span for actual, you know, news. Sure enough, our state-approved media remains riveted by reality TV bullshit, masturbating hypocrites, and philandering golfers, but quickly loses interest in the birth of democracy in a volatile region at war with our fair nation.

Read the Al Jazeera piece here, and write in the comments below if you know exactly what it means to ‘agitate against the Islamic Republic.’

Munnersby: This is definitely fucked. But what are you advocating? 'Regime Change'? You want to clean up every shitbox dictatorship in the world? Good luck with that. See how far it's gotten us. Anyway, even if this is just a post to say 'check it out', that just shows that you fucking suck, Dunbar. Weak shit across the board.

huivpalto: My friend, or sould i say comrade Alex )))) Your anger is misguided to say the least. 1. You are blaming the US in general for lack of action. But had we gone in there guns blazing to take down the bastard (or better yet use special forces) you'd be the first to start the uproar about encroachment on the rights of the sovereign nation 2. You specifically refer to the US media as "state approved" - could not be farther from the truth. The only approval from state comes in for of FCC regulations. Everything else is ratings - or what people WANT TO SEE. Media first and foremost is about money just like any other business. 3. You are using Al Jazeera - a news network from the Islamic world as an example of a good coverage )))) Do I really need to comment on this???? )))) The majority of the Arab states (including one where Al Jazeera originates) are fearful of Iran. And guess what? If you try to protest in those states you would likely meet the same fate as the Iranian protesters.

dunbar: 1. No I'm not 2. That was a joke. I was comparing widely accepted, false, notions about Al Jazeera in the States with (once) widely accepted, false, notions about our own media here 3. I guess you do need to comment on this (see number 2). Your primary objection to Al Jazeera seems to be its ties to the "Islamic world," how does that discredit their coverage? You acknowledge the bravery implicit in a Middle Eastern outlet standing up to Iran, yet you rail against Al Jazeera, attempting to invalidate their efforts. AND GUESS WHAT? I know I'd be killed if I wrote this shit in Iran, that's why America roolz.

jiminy: agreed on all counts but still i would love to see the carrie prejean tape, mostly out of curiosity but also partly because she is hot in a never-would-date-but-would-definitely-sodomize kind of way.
