RUIN PORN ON NPR
September 28, 2009
by VBS Staff
VBS.tv’s very own Thomas Morton appeared on NPR’s On The Media yesterday to discuss his recent investigation into media misrepresentation of Detroit’s economic devastation. The original article, Something, Something, Something Detroit, illustrates how journalists, those of the photo variety especially, distort Michigan’s ruin by intentionally cropping out signs of prosperity to paint a picture of apocalyptic oblivion in Motor City. Before I spoil the whole thing for you, head over to NPR for a listen or employ your eyeballs for a look at the original article.

Samantha218: I think this is a reminder that journalism should get back to just reporting the facts and not looking for a monumental story. It would be nice to know what IS actually going on and not someone's opinion on what COULD be going on. Essentially why I like this site.

JenB: Journalists always take things out of context and manipulated them, but that doesn't change the fact that Detroit has been really fucked for decades now- it's not all an illusion.
