JERRY HSU BONUS ROUND

Epicly Later'd Season Two

Wassup y’all. My name is Matt. I’m a little skateboarder grommet from San Jose. I’m the guy that MJ was referring to when he was talking about that one guy that pissed on the ledge in that one episode of Epicly Later’d that you probably missed. Unfortunately, I got old. Somewhere along the way (or somehow along the way) I lost a lot of friends. Patrick O’Dell won’t even deal with me anymore. He now has some guy named “Chris” constantly bother me via instant message over footage rights for shit I filmed back when I was younger and had cool friends. I used to kick it with Jerry Hsu back in the day. We used to ride skateboards together and dream of making it bigtime. Well, that’s why Vice loves him and not me: He made it to cooldom while I stalled out at “bitter old fuck.” Oh well. Thems the breaks.

BEAUTY & THE BEAST STRIKES BACK

Epicly Later'd Season Two
Girlantiherotour_blog

In honor of Epicly Later’d’s Girl and Antihero Beauty and the Beast tour series passing the crucial half-way point we’re giving away Girl and Antihero’s Beauty and the Beast tour video. (Sorry, for some reason the old link is getting screwed up on our homepage here it is again.) Anyways, we only have two copies of the DVD, so the first two people to correctly identify the person or organization who holds the rights to the song that the alien sings when he pops out of that one dude’s stomach at the end of Space Balls are the ones who get them. Answers in the comments please. Oh yeah, we were so late getting together our take on the tour that Girl and Anti hero lapped us and are already hitting the road again. That’s what that poster is all about.

ROBBIE RUSSO'S PROFESSIONAL OBLIVION

Epicly Later'd Season Two

Today’s episode finally provides a little insight into the mind of the guy you’ve all been waiting for, Robbie Russo. The only thing I knew about Robbie before the tour was that one Antihero ad where they had him hung upside down. I’m kind of wondering if he’s even seen the ad, because based on the way Patrick’s interview with him went it seems like he doesn’t pay too much attention to what’s going on in the skate world. It’s sort of crazy because the way he skates makes it seem like he was found in a basket at Del Mar or some other gnarly park from the early 80s and raised by pros. I don’t know, maybe that’s the key to skating like that: don’t pay any attention to what’s going on around you and just figure it out for yourself. Sort of like the career version of not focusing on your board.

BEAUTY & THE BEAST PART 2 1/2

Epicly Later'd Season Two

Here’s a little clip Spike shot during the Girl and Antihero tour to tide you over until episode three on Thursday. When you’re traveling with as many people as we were with there is always something good going on besides skating. At this park Tony Miorana and Frank Gerwer were occupying themselves by trying to surf John Cardiel’s bike in the parking lot. Both them were pretty good at it, but things took a turn for the awesome when Frank decided to switch gears to wind-surfing. Even though he’s just fucking around, it’s still pretty impressive on a totally non-homoerotic male athleticism level.

EPICLY LATERD'S BROOKINGS PILGRIMAGE

July 09, 2009
by CHRIS GROSSO

Epicly Later'd Season Two

Today was the first day of actual skating on the tour. The first park we went to was just a place to get loose, the second was a bust, but the third ended up being perfect. While we were at the swimming spot, someone mentioned we were heading to someplace called Brookings. I’m not that familiar with Oregon skate parks by name, but when we rolled in I instantly recognized it as the site of Cardiel’s bs 360 off the ski-jump-type thing from Cash Money Vagrant. I’m the kind of person who goes to a city and sneaks off by myself to check out “skate tourist” spots and think, “Wow, wouldn’t it be cool if so and so was here trying this?” This was pretty similar, except that every so and so actually was here. It was a skate-nerd dream come true.

THE BEGINNING OF BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

June 29, 2009

Epicly Later'd Season Two

Hey, everybody. This week is the start of the Beauty and the Beast series on Epicly Later’d. It was basically as if the Lakers and the Chicago Bulls (each at their height) went on some sort of basketball tour together. It was a dream team. Some of the best skaters ever, all piled in the same vans and tents. Every spot we went to, someone had something for it. You’ll see in the episodes how much everyone ripped. There was already a skate video made about this trip, but hopefully mine will provide a lot of behind-the-scenes insight. Unless you never saw the Girl video.

HERE COMES BEAUTY & THE BEAST

Last spring I went on probably the heaviest skateboarding tour I will ever go on, as far as the presence of legendary skaters goes. The Girl and Antihero teams decided to do a two-week tour of the Northwest, camping and skating every day. I went along to film it for VBS.TV. I couldn’t believe I was even there to see such amazing skating.

PS: As you will soon see, a ‘wizard staff’ is when you finish a beer and tape it underneath your next beer. As you drink more beers, the staff grows. You become a wizard when the staff is taller than you.

For more tantalizing glimpses at what’s in store for the Beauty & the Beast episodes, check out Patrick’s spread from last year’s Photo Issue

IT'S TIME FOR MORE JAMES KELCH!

June 10, 2009
by PATRICK O'DELL

Epicly Later'd Season Two
Sjsf_9489_blog

James Kelch is a lifer and that’s why I respect him. He was skating in the late 80s and he’s still skating now. All these people that talk shit about him or about people like Jake Phelps, let’s see what you’re doing in 15 years. That’s why I don’t take the comments too seriously. Now if James called me to tell me he didn’t like something, then I’d be worried.

Watch part two of James Kelch on Epicly Later’d
