Oakcliff214: The girl holding the sign should be wearing an american flag bikini

noodle: it'd go nicely with her orange tan and navel piercing. insta-classy.

NachoCheesier: Confederate flag would also be appropriate. Or Calvin pissing on something.

ruckus: i've heard for years about how racing cars, bikes, whatever is all about mental focus. i'm still not sure i buy it.

taco_baby: what i find funny is how nascar racing is such a family thing. because your dad is a good driver that makes the son one?
SodaBob: Okay, then try going 100mph+ for a few hours without some mental focus.
ruckus: no, i agree. what i mean is it's funny that so many family members have this "gift" of focus. i find it hard to swallow.
SodaBob: @ruckus: oh, I see. I know what you're saying, but on the other hand, it's a little like any other industry, I suppose. My dad was in the tech/computer industry, and lo and behold so am I. What you grow up around often defines what you consider to be legitimate pursuits, and also defines what you know. The 2nd and 3rd generation racers grow up with it, and probably start at a very young age racing whatever (go karts, etc) - it's not necessarily an innate ability, but training from a very young age. And the exposure of a famous name probably doesn't hurt, either :)

Yufamizm: The best part of this piece is by far the sign "UNLOAD GUNS HERE." I didn't even know they made signs like that.
staypuft: now all they need is a "rednecks use back door, no exceptions" sign.

localola: the mom putting her baby on the motorcycle is cute. future road rager!

Chola4realz: you have not obviously been to the south

noodle: THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN!!
bristlez: @noodle: wait, what? this is in indiana.
chinchilla: oh there are confederates in the midwest waiting for the south to rise again @bristlez!

SodaBob: Listen closely. The Indy Mile is in... Indianapolis. Not the south. And the "Unload Guns Here" sign was shown because on the same day as the flat track race at the fair grounds in Indy, there was also the Indy 1500 Gun & Knife Show. The "unload guns here" was a reminder for people bringing their guns to sell at the show. VBS: you need to watch your editing in some of your segments, things like that "unload guns here" sign and the guys carrying the long guns create a false impression (like, in your Liberia series, where you show kids about to eat a human heart - in the video you don't explain that that footage was from the civil war, that it was NOT footage that you had taken, again creating a false impression).
ruckus: anyone paying attention and with half a brain could tell the liberia footage was old footage. here, it's more confusing. either way, it's funny and i'm glad it was there. i got a hoot out of it, as my mother would say.
SodaBob: I consider myself to have at least half a brain (heh), and I saw no difference between the archived footage and the footage they were taking, nor was there (that I remember) any mention of, "hey, this is archive footage!" or even an indication. I'd have to watch it again to see (which I may), maybe I just missed the subtle hint. A minor criticism, to be sure, but clearly some of these sorts of editing decisions cause confusion. <shrug>

ruckus: perhaps i was a bit harsh. i never thought for a moment that those scenes were ones shot by the vbs filmmakers, but you might be right about it not being overly apparent. i'm sure i'll watch it all again soon and i'll keep that in mind. i still think here the sign looks like it's at the bike race, but i'm sticking with my opinion that it doesn't really matter all that much and is worth inclusion for a laugh if nothing else.
