People of this generation know so much more about the flight of non-western/first world people's lives than any time in history. They're not READY to hear about it? Fuck off. Everything she's said about music in this interview is self-flattery.. a bunch of bullshit concocted to fit her contrived narrative about what a authentic outsider she is. Guess what? Producing Western dance music set to rap imagery and lyrical style (with American urban minority grievances replaced by third world grievances) isn't a revelation.. it's just clever and timely marketing.
If she really cared about the third world, she'd write in a way that reflected the emotions of people living through it and elicited empathy and compassion from Western listeners. Instead, she peddles their misery and tries to identify herself with to satisfy her need for "street cred" and to satisfy the West's fix for novelty.
