bodo: This was, like, a really eye-opening fucking experience, all that shit everywhere, fucking everything up. Fuck. I ought to clean up my fucking act and shit. Stop wasting so much fucking shit. What a touching hipster hook-up in the tech room. Listening to Dead Luke after this has soothed me.

sportwarrior: I really enjoy watching these VICE TV docs... but as several other people have said, these kids are ridiculously bad. I mean, I'm all for raw journalism. I just cannot stand it when people use curse words as their primary adjectives/adverbs. It just really screams poor vocabulary and totally blows away their credibility. Even Shane Smith is guilty of this, although I like him quite a bit more than I do the whiny guy in Toxic. It also doesn't help that 90% of the reporters look like NY hipster trash.

DJK900: I'm glad they did a documentary on this subject, but the hosts sound like whiny, moronic idiots. I don't think he has said a single sentence in this whole documentary that didn't use the word "like" or vulgar language. They should have let the researchers do more of the talking.

WayneHansen: at least you let Meredith talk in this very last episode instead of just using her as backdrop and eyecandy for sunsets and sailor-themed shots...unfortunately, she is not more articulate than the other two twats/"reporters". Not only do they not have any original thought, they are also unable to express them. Yeah, it is a boat, yeah, you can't get off it and yeah, it may be boring. Get over it. Fascinating topic, scary analysis, good shots - but maybe send somebody else next time and let the actual scientists explain a bit more and in more detail.

PAVoutsinas: Why the hell don't they talk about this relevant shite on the news?! instead they talk about Brittany spears or paris hilton suckin c>ck on video like that's an important crisis lol or how a politician slips up under pressure and blurts out something not politically correct and they turn it into a theme of poking fun at them for the next 2 days ... This is a real crisis among many others that should be brought to light in the mainstream media! .... great job on these reports. You should try doing a piece on how mainstream media news sux and why investigative journalism has died off and is at the point of extinction.

Sylvain: Perhaps if we can manage to work at the atomic and molecular levels, by breaking up the chemical bonds that hold the molecules of plastic together, the situation could be improved? If we could design atomic or molecular scale biological robots that would feed on the types of molecules that form plastic residues, and then send armies of these biological robots into the ocean ...? In other words, the idea is to engineer molecular-scale biological systems that would perform the bio-degradation work in a short amount of time? Reverse engineer the fabrication process of plastic? http://www.springerlink.com/content/n651104158x43255/

swtdreams428: Wow it goes to show the order in which our population thinks and follows. The first comments left in response to the WHOLE video were a demonstration showing supreme ignorance in the face of truth. I am stepping up, not walking away from this one.

RaySwore: IDEA -- Colleges should award grants to build large 8' x 8' x 5' aquariums filled with this filthy ocean water. Then, install them in the food courts of their campuses with panels that explain what toxic chemicals are in the plastics, how the plastics reach the ocean, how they break down, and how they enter the food chain and eventually our bodies, and what it does to us.

itsallhalal: agreed, where is this so-called garbage island? very clever way to get me to watch the whole thing!! But its really a powerful piece. Despite the lack of trash island money shot, I loved watching this documentary and I think it did a god job of communicating the severity of the situation in an entertaining way. I'm impressed by the cinematography and narrative structure.. there were some thoughtful comments made by the people on the trip - "we’ve consigned ourselves to eating our own shit," haha. there needs to be so much more coverage of this topic, thank you vbs.

KIWI: To all you people having contributed to this epic documentary flick: I want to thank you for all your work and that you have created this stunningly disturbing inside to one of the most demanding challenges of ill-functioning humanity. I can remember how there was this movement of less plastic wrapping in supermarkets and the "blue angel" label. All this seems to be gone. I really liked your documentary even though the ending was a little bit too short to my taste. It might be inteded and it is not wrong or anything but we are left with the idea of the oceans already destroyed. Unfortunately in this society you tend to slack off when believing that there is not really anything to do about things going wrong. Nevertheless, I have read about the toxic garbage island at other places. Unfortunately mostly in lifestyle magazines printed on glossy paper. Irony? Besides taking the paperback instead of the plastic bag I am running out of ideas how to minimise things. Anyways thank you all so much for a lovely, professional and disturbing piece of work that highlights our stupidity to care about our own world.
