I was a young cameraman trying to do my best, but the story that made the air was not a true representation of what I saw in that country during that conflict.
The approach you've taken of sitting with the reporter and explaining footage that has only been slightly edited is briliant. I just wish I had access to my raw footage today so I could explain how little things have changed in Afghanistan in the last 22 years.

ZoneKang: Hats off to VBS for more brave traveling/reporting. Why do we never see photos or footage from this war?? Very bizarre. This type of reporting needs to find find its way onto broadcast TV. But then again, maybe that's why they're on the way out, and VBS will inherit the world.

anonymous: This platoon is a clusterf*ck. Guys are bunched up with no visible security perimeter. If the Taliban had a mortar it could wipe out most of their platoon at a single stroke. They need to burn their poppy fields to deprive them of their economic base. And use infantry tactics to take out their compound, not rely on wildly inaccurate airstrikes.
