Mohammed: About the toilets, go watch Slumdog Millionaire... The toilet in there is real, and you can go to the poor places of India to confirm it...

Mohammed: First of all, I would like to define what does slavery means. Slavery is a form of forced labour in which people are considered to be the property of others. Slaves can be held against their will from the time of their capture, purchase or birth, and deprived of the right to leave, to refuse to work, or to receive compensation ------------ These men you saw in the video came by their own will, they accepted their employment contract, they accepted all the terms of how many hours they are going to work, and how much they are going to get paid, and what type of work they will be doing, and what type of accommodation they will be staying in. Before I continue, those men that were captured by your video are considered very poor in their homeland, they cannot earn more than 100 pounds a month, or they are ex-prisoners who wants to be able to work, or they are mentally retarded, or people with ZERO education. I I suggest that you go to their homeland and see how is their life there, which is far worse. Your Video only taken ONE spot of a very bad location that is against the labor law, and you could report it to the UAE government, and they will taken actions against it. This is a very long discussion, and I don't think that my words will be enough to convince you, but the person's involved into the video should investigate further more and ask the other side before judging. don't just ask the labor workers without asking their employers. -------------------------------- Remember that some labors in the past are now considered millionaires in Dubai, they came as plain labor workers, and now they are extremely rich, richer than me and you, and all that done by their manipulative ways. (A proof that they are not slaves) ------------------------------- I am an Employer, and I do have many employees overseas, and I would be very happy if you could visit me to see how they are treated, and I will even share with you my own stories of what I have dealt with. I had ex-cons employees who literally stole me, I had uneducated employees that lied in thier C.V.'s, I had people even lying about their own age by providing a fake passport so that they get their job in Saudi Arabia, I even got some employees with diseases that are hard to treat, they provided a fake medical safe report prior their arrival... These all methods they use just to get a job for that minimum wage, thats how bad they want to get out of their country and get a work for such a wage. (Question is why?!) And worse of all, I had an employee who lied on my face after working for 10 years in my company, He came crying like that guy in the video, I was so emotional by his story, that he wanted me to get his brother to work in our country so he could get some money gathered faster so they could pay their landlord before evacuating his wife and children, he told me that his wife was sick and had to treat herself with the money by ignoring the landlord threats. The stupidity of him is that he didn't ask me to provide him with money that he could payback to me in easy terms, he asked me to get his brother. I accepted and issued a visa for hi,, and shockingly as I almost expected he sold the visa to a random guy for hell an amount of money. Him lying to me made me unsure about him anymore, I even doubted that he has a wife or children. I ended up departing him to his homeland, which was very hard for me, and him crying that day was far worse than the guy on the video. In general, DON'T LET EXTERIORS FAKE YOU. ----------------------------------------- I am sorry for my miss-presented long comment, but I just want you to know that SLAVERY is banned in whole Middle East, and what you saw in the video is just the worst side of the field in low wages labor workers, with even SOME manipulative lying people interviewed within the video. ----------------------------------------- The United States of America have standard minimum wages for workers by title, regardless of nationality. In the Middle East, we do not have that. Which is why we have so many labor workers for much cheaper prices from countries that contain very poor people. Think of it as a domino effect, if we reduce overseas employments, then Bangladesh, Pakistan, India , and other countries will suffer more! -------------------------------- Look at it from the bright side, Middle Eastern are the good guys... Our National Economy would be better off when it comes to overseas employment. However, International Economy would NOT be better off when it comes to overseas employment. WE ARE THE WORLD WE ARE THE CHILDREN Peace out, Mohammed

paololuis: Hats off to you ben anderson. Everything in this video are just absolutely TRUE!! Why, because I lived in Dubai for more than 5 years, part of my job was to go around this camps to sample our products to this workers. It is just plain slavery (words are not enough to depict the cruelty this arabs are doing to these people) what this government are doing to these people. Very sad specially knowing that Dubai rulers (or monsters maybe) mansion are just couple of miles away from the workers accomodation. Behind Dubai's glitters are evils toasting their champagne. I believe I still have this anger inside me after seeing all this very bad and unfair treatment done to this people. Luckily I am now out of that country. Ben I'm sure you are now banned to enter the country.

dj_leethol: what exactly are these workers building? are they construction workers? doesn't that make for dangerous buildings?

Sagnew: re : anyone know if this has changed since dubai has been failing of late? Just got back from Dubai a few weeks ago. I read news stories (govt controlled media so who knows if it's factual) they have recently passed laws allowing for laborers who have not been paid for 8 weeks to leave. The story did not go into much detail - but from what I could gather if you are a worker and have not been paid for 2 months. You in theory can leave the country. I'm not sure how they could - as they wouldnt have money (let alone their passports) . I happened to catch one promising story on TV from a foreign news show (maybe bbc or skynews?) . Dubai created a government agency to inventory and monitor the conditions of labor camps/housing. They showed new apartment like buildings and hinted that they would need to be upto humane standards. Who knows if that will actually happen. A great deal of the construction companies have gone out of business - a lot of the higher up foreign owned companies just completely dissolved. It seems the government is starting to care because these foreign companies owe Emmarti owned companies millions of dollars. It's the craziest and weirdest place on the planet. Every block and building is surreal.

jejujohn: The man who had not been paid and was begging for food is heartbreaking. The whole thing is sick. These men are not the only victims of this. Women from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines are recruited to work in the homes of some in these Gulf States and are subjected to similar abuses.

josejosejose: I feel like it could only get worse. These construction companies have to cut costs somehow, and guess where the first place theyll probably look is.

fancypantsmcgee: which hopefully means they won't waste their efforts trying to keep men like this and let them go home.

sassafras: you don't hear more about it because the UAE is an ally of ours. we are good at ignoring things like this in countries that claim to have our backs, and especially if the countries are in the middle east. now i'm not saying we have the option to refuse the friendship of any country that does things we don't like, but slavery crosses that line in my opinion.
